Hi Paula,
I am a descendant of the Lange Family from Hog Island you mentioned. My great-great grandmother Fannie Hunt McAllister Weagley is the person whom was part owner of Hog Island.

Hi Lyndon:
We corresponded re: our mutual Burns connection about a month ago. I’m very interested in your story and the Burns descendants. As I may have mentioned , I’m planning to go back to Louisiana for further research late this year or early next year to do more research so perhaps we can meet for coffee. I’m also interested in meeting any other cousins we may share. My line is from Sallie Robbins Zenor Magill , g. daughter of Sarah McWilliams whom you’ve added to your descent line. Sallie was born in 1860 (Concordia Parish) so did not get to know her g. mother Sarah McWilliams as she died in 1860. I do know however that she and her sisters Mollie and Lulu used to go to NO with the Burns/ Beasley/Trousdale girls to party as they are mentioned in Mary Elizabeth’s Sanders’books. Lucretia, daughter of Sallie Zenor Magill, daughter of Lucretia Robbins Zenor, daughter of Sallie Burns Robbins, daughter of Sarah and John Burns had a daughter (Zenora Robbins Davison Duffy). Zenora was my mom , born Chicago 1916, died 1/12/1996 Nashville/ buried Chattanooga, Tennessee. All six of her children (FA Owen Edgar Duffy) are alive and doing well. I’m interested in your story about John Burns and Gabriel Beasley being in competition for Sarah’s affections?? Do you have anything on that story as I’d like to include it in my family history. I’m not sure if I mentioned it but one of my cousins , Mary Elizabeth Sanders has written a number of books regarding LA family and his a lot of family history including some letters/ diaries, etc. She’s published by LSU (Lafayette)and can be found in the LSU library system. Some of the info might be helpful to you. I even found a recipe for Pecan cookies provided by Amanda Robbins Sanders (g.daughter of Sarah McWilliams and John Burns), so a mutual aunt of ours. From what I’ve been able to figure out , you, Charles Vaughn, Renee Richards are all descendants of Sarah McWilliams and we’re either 4, 5 or 6th cousins. If you or any of the others interested in Sarah Burns/Beasley families are interested, I can be reached at alison.duffy@state.tn.us

My aunt taught in a school on Hog Island, La. in tne 50′s. I have her photos. I have been trying to find info about this area and would love to find family of those in her photos. Aunt Helen never had any children, so there is no one that these pictures mean anything to. I hate to just throw then away. Any suggestions? Kids came to school in boats. Neat photos.

Are the Burns sisters still alive? I was wondering if I could find out a little info on my aunt when she taught on Hog Island. Please let me know.
I was really excited to find that the Burns sisters were in the photos of my aunts.

I think Nick Burns might be my great grandfather. I think Violet is my aunt we called ‘Aunt Chick’ when I was growing up. Nick looks just like my father. My grandfather is Jesse Burns (my father’s dad) who shows up in the picture above and the others are my Uncle Dewsey, Aunt Myrtle and Aunt Ceal. I never got a chance to meet my great grandparents, only my grandparents on my father’s side. Don’t know if anyone is still reading the posts. I had never seen a pic of PaPa Burns (Jesse) as a young child.

I think the Burns sisters are gone. There might be one still alive.
