Note to self: Watch encore presentation of “God’s Warriors” on CNN Saturday night
I forgot this was coming on this week and only caught the third part tonight, which focused on the struggle between fundamentalists and moderates within Christianity. Wow! Very well done. This is the kind of thing you need to watch with a small group of people and have a great discussion when it’s over.
A couple of quick observations:
- Ron Luce of Teen Mania is a lunatic.
- I think Greg Boyd‘s been inside my head or at least reading my blog. Good stuff, Greg.
- Richard Cizik is a class act all the way on why it is “Christian” to protect the environment.
Mostly, as of late, I am embarassed of some of the things I have believed and said in the past (even from the pulpit no less), but mostly I am glad for having my eyes as well as my mind opened to see things differently. Whether or not you agree with this documentary or someone’s opinion, for that matter, listen and be respectful. I think it’s what Jesus would do.

Seeing Ron Luce scream from the top of his lungs whipping up thousands of teenagers into a frenzy about “going to war” is quite a turn off. He represents ultra-fundamentalism. The “camp” he runs in Texas seems wierd to me, not only as an indoctrination station but as a work place to employ teens to further advance his agenda. My opinions are based solely on his appearance in the documentary, which appeared to be fairly transparent.

I gotcha. I’ve gone to Aquire the Fire a few times with my youth group and I have friends that went to the Honor Academy.
I don’t actually remember anything he’s ever preached about lol…but I do however remember quite a few things other speakers that were at the events had to say. It was pretty good.
Several of the parents of my youth group weren’t thrilled about everything he had to say concerning his campaign to Run to the Battle and such. They felt like he was teaching their kids to look for trouble.
There’s a lot of hype that goes along with some of the events he hosts. But, I was just wondering.

DVR’d it last night. Got halfway through the first one before I passed out. I started watching it too late. I will try to get some more in today. Good so far. Saw Karen Armstrong’s interview, I knew that that was a good sign.

Just made it through the six hours of “God’s Warriors”. I would say that I enjoyed it, but that wouldn’t be the correct word. I think the more correct terminology is that I learned. I appreciated the un-biased approach for all sides. I am glad that you mentioned this otherwise I would have missed it.

Lyndon,
Greg’s book is, “the Myth of a Christian Nation.” One of the best…EVER.
