It would appear that Democrat suspicion over repeated denials and double talk by the Bush administration about “domestic surveillance” efforts following September 11, 2001 is well warranted. “The Bush administration’s top intelligence official has acknowledged that a controversial domestic surveillance program was only one part of a much broader spying effort,” White House says spying broader than known: report (Reuters). “Bush signed an executive order that authorized ‘a number of … intelligence activities’ following the hijacking attacks of September 11, 2001,” according to Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell in a letter written to the Senate Judiciary Committee in defense of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez who is under fire over the warrantless surveillance program.
Why do I get the feeling that this administration has to be dragged kicking and screaming to the witness stand to own up to the most basic questions about its conduct and policies? Since when are we not allowed to question and hold to account those we elect in positions of power? My son lied to his grandma and his mom three times before eventually confessing to why he bit his little brother yesterday. Consequently, he got his mouth washed out with soap when he got home. Do you think the same might be appropriate here?
