Iraq PM says Iraqis can manage without U.S.

Ok, let’s just think this one through for a moment.

  • Insurgents are trying to kill our guys
  • The Iraqi leaders say they don’t need us
  • None of the benchmarks for progress have been achieved
  • We’re spending over $10 Billion a month to be there
  • We’re losing soldiers everyday
  • The overwhelming majority of Americans want our troops home
  • But Pres. Bush thinks we can win and refuses to end the war

There is no logic here. I never bought into the pre-election rhetoric or Presidential banter that “Bush is an idiot.” I don’t think he got where he is being stupid. However, his actions or lack thereof of late have got to make you question his reasoning. So today the Iraqi Prime Minister says that the U.S. can leave anytime they want. Well hell, let’s pack up and hit the road. Are we really going to stay there and shove “freedom” down their throats. “You’ll be free whether you want to or not!” What? Enough is enough.

In the United States and other democracies in history freedom was born out of people’s desire to have it. They rose up, opposed the powers that be, and fought for freedom with their blood. No one came to North America to kick the British out and force us to become a nation. To the contrary no one was going to keep us from victory. What a different picture you see in Iraq. Democracies don’t grow in test tubes. They grow in the heart, Mr. President. You can’t beat it into someone or force them to work together for peace and freedom. They have to want it for themselves.

For that matter all the speculation about military action against Iran is absolute stupidity. The Iranians are very educated and fairly modern. There are so many young Iranians who may not want to see Iran become the United States but strongly oppose the current regime. We should support them in anyway possible, so that when time comes for revolution they will not stand alone. When they overthrow the powers that be, I believe the civilized world will be ready to step in and help. One would hope that the presence of U.S. and its allies on either side of Iran would encourage dissidents to act, but you cannot force a revolution either. It will happen in time when the Iranians are ready. We can only hope the current policies of the U.S. and lack of progress in Iraq doesn’t demoralize the young Iranians.

So we wait for the world to change for time to be right.
