“The man who fears God will avoid all extremes .” Ecclesiastes 7:18, NIV
There are almost always two sides to every issue, and there is enormous pressure to swear allegiance to one and declare the other apostasy. However, we’re cautioned to avoid the far right as much as the far left. We have all witnessed the dangers of extremists of all camps. Sometimes it is difficult to find a middle way. Contrary to the opinion of the fringes, the middle way is not void of convictions or passion. Finding balance can often be difficult, and hard choices have to be made. Sometimes we err, but ”What would the church be like if we erred from an excess of compassion rather than from a stingy and legalistic lack of it?” (Brennan Manning, A Glimpse of Jesus).
